A Tribute to Stacy - My Business Partner - My Friend
I first met Stacy the week before Labor Day, 2001. She interviewed for a licensed cosmetologist job at another shop I was working at. I knew from the minute I met her that she would be perfect for the job. She had a beautiful smile and laugh with the sincerest eyes that would put anyone at ease. As time would go by and I got to know her, I would soon realize she also had a heart of gold - so giving of herself selflessly to all she met.
Our workstations were extremely close to each other in a small room in the back of the shop, thus we basically breathed each other's air, heard each other's conversations as well as had many conversations amongst ourselves. You really get to know the true colors of people when you work so close to each other. I was blessed to have discovered all the wonderful attributes Stacy possessed. I saw her at her happiest times and her rough times. She pulled through life's struggles with that beautiful smile always on her face and joy radiating from her soul.
We have a dear friend and mentor that lives in Lapeer. This person trained Stacy on how to cut and style wigs and she was always there for her for any questions Stacy might have. One Friday evening she invited Stacy and I out to her new shop and to have dinner. We had a wonderful dinner at the historical White Horse restaurant when we got our bill, just about ready to stand up and leave when our friend asked us to sit down. She then proposed a business idea and that was the beginning of A Woman's Image. Stacy and I decided that after five years of working together, the two of us could do this. We found a place and opened shop. Stacy and I worked night and day getting our store ready. At the end of a day, Stacy and I would talk about our day and always felt so blessed to have had the best customers. We would sit and write press releases and I learned quickly that Stacy had a knack for writing words that beautifully told a story with such depth and feeling. They say, "the eyes are the door to a person's soul", with Stacy it was her written words.
We opened our Clinton Township in 2006 and in 2012 opened our second store in Royal Oak. Stacy managed that store beautifully by seeing customers both for their mastectomy needs as well as wig needs. In the last few years, the ladies who came back in for their bras and learned of Stacy's diagnosis were incredibly saddened by the news. They fondly remembered her helping them out and thought she was truly a gem. We were lucky to have had a successful business together working side by side for 15 years.
Stacy had such a gift for making friends wherever she went. She certainly made them with our clients. Women and men of all different ages fell in love with her. They recognized her beautiful soul and wanted her to share with them her fondness for her family, friends and especially her fishing stories. I will never forget when she opened a pink fishing pole at her birthday party and was like a kid in a candy store. Her joy was through the roof.
Stacy learned of her diagnosis in March of 2020. It was a devastating blow to someone that was just starting to live a part of her life that should have been her happiest times. Married only one year to Ron, a wonderful man she was crazy in love with and learning she was going to be a grandma for the first time. Her best years were supposed to be coming up, not ending.
I dream of her often and she's always walking around helping people. I am guessing that's what she's doing in heaven. Who knows, maybe that's why God took her from us....to help in heaven. I will miss Stacy forever. She will live on in our memories with fondness, kindness, and genuine love.
God Bless You Stacy Forever!!!
Updated Store Location News
Dear Valued Clients & Friends of AWI,
I hope this letter finds each and every one of you well!
I know these have been trying times with COVID-19 uncertainty, delayed and back ordered products, and price increases on almost everything. Adding to this was the electrical fire that occurred overnight at our store on April 7th, 2021. We are so thankful that no one was injured. The store, however, sustained major water damage from a sprinkler that ran for 8 hours straight, in addition to smoke damage. Our products were declared a total loss. With the insurance process and all the steps necessary to reopen, it’s sad for me to say we will not be reopening the Clinton Township location. I am excited to share that the Royal Oak location we closed in May 2020 was still available and we will be permanently relocating there with an opening date of September 1st, 2021.
The biggest thing I learned from our closure after the fire is how much I missed our clients and helping them in any capacity we can. I look forward to continuing our relationship and I’m hoping you will find the Royal Oak location a tolerable drive. The address is 28966 Woodward Ave, Royal Oak, MI 48067 (1 mile South of Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and 1 mile North of I-696). There is parking in both the front and back of the building. If by chance the drive is too far, I will be able to ship any style of product you’ve had from us in the past. Our phone number will remain the same at (586) 286-1277.
We will continue working by appointment only and enforcing a mask covering until the CDC provides new guidance. I am fully vaccinated, as are most of our customers, but taking the necessary precautions to ensure everyone’s health & safety remains top priority.
Additional Updates: New Client Portal – Like most healthcare professionals, we are finally getting onboard and moving to a digital platform for client intake forms and appointment management. For those of you who don’t like a computer, no need to worry, as I will fill-out everything like before. For those that are more tech savvy, you will be able to request appointments and complete intake forms in advance from your computer or smartphone. The platform is HIPAA compliant with a strong firewall for added information protection. When you call for your next appointment, we will walk you through the simple steps for getting set-up if you’re interested.
We are wishing everyone a safe and healthy start to the fall season and can’t wait to welcome you to our Royal Oak location!
God Bless,
Nancy
